- A team from CBME won the 2012 President's Cup for its Final Year Project entitled, "Processing of high-performance porous membranes for fuel cell applications". The team consisted of LI Fung Chu, SUN Bowen, WONG Hon Ting, XU Lang, and was supervised by Professor Ping GAO. The President's Cup is an annual event at HKUST for undergraduate graduates to compete based on outstanding achievements in research and innovation.

- A team from CBME won the Silver Award in the 2012 President's Cup for its Final Year Project entitled, "In Situ Hydrogel for Cosmetic Injection". The team consisted of LAM, Pik Kei, YAN, Kai Qi, YI, Fei Ran, YIP, Siu Man, and was supervised by Professor Ying CHAU.

- Professor Gordon McKay was awarded the Honorable Mention for the Distinguished Research Award from School of Engineering, HKUST. The award is only given to only one faculty member for the whole school each year, and reflects Professor McKay's excellent academic and industrial contributions.

- Appeal for Donation for Mr Bobo Ka Hung Kwok's Family

- Mr. Bobo Kwok, our Technical Associate, was found dead last Wednesday night (14-Mar) inside his home (Junior Staff Quarters).

- CBME third-year students Jeromy Chun Yuen CHAN, Ho San MAK, Lawrence Kai Qi YAN and Karen Pik Shuen HUNG won the Gold Award of the "Shape our Sustainable Campus" organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. The team beat out 13 teams and 40 participants to win this prestigious award with an innovative system to recycle food. The system, based on a patent from Productivity Council, converts food waste into fertilizer, which is used for roof-top farming and organic gardens. Food grown will then be sold to students and funds raised will maintain the sustainability of the project. As food waste accounts for 40% of municipal waste and treatment of food waste can be difficult, the team took this opportunity to make a positive difference to HKUST's sustainability initiatives.

- Shammi Akter FERDOUSI, a PhD student of Professor King Lun YEUNG, won the Best Poster Award at the 243rd ACS National Meeting & Exposition held in the U.S., in March 2012.
